    Hi Tigress,

Here in Canada it's starting to become a somewhat known condition, in some places more than others. The addictions and mental health clinics are aware of it - and the psychiatrists at the clinics typically prescribe lamotrigine and clonidine in combination to treat it.

At the university of Alberta hospital the head of the psychiatry department is actually seemingly well versed in the condition and had actually told me that my best bet with treating the condition would be to test out an atypical antipsychotic called pimavanserin. Unfortunately this antipsychotic is still brand new meaning that it costs roughly $28000 us dollars per year for treatment. 😆

    PharmacodynamicsEdit

Pimavanserin acts as an inverse agonist and antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A [5]receptors with high binding affinity (Ki 0.087 nM) and at serotonin 5-HT2Creceptors with lower binding affinity (Ki 0.44 nM). Pimavanserin shows low binding to σ1 receptors (Ki 120 nM) and has no appreciable affinity (Ki>300 nM) to serotonin 5-HT2B, dopamine (including D2), muscarinic acetylcholinehistamine, or adrenergic receptors, or to calcium channels.[1][6]

Pimavanserin has a unique mechanism of action relative to other antipsychotics, behaving as a selective inverse agonist of the serotonin 5-HT2Areceptor, with 40-fold selectivity for this site over the 5-HT2C receptor and no significant affinity or activity at the 5-HT2B receptor or dopamine receptors.[2]

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

It’s like playing  Russian roulette . look at its mechanism of action . it is working on 5-ht2a which is responsible of visual phenomena . It’s known that visual cortex has a-lot of 5-ht2a receptor and activating or deactivating this receptor will play a rule in how you see things .In the end it’s your choice.you take the drug experiment or stay away till they make more studies on hppd .

How severe was your hppd before you started taking the antidepressants? I can’t even tell if I have hppd but the floaters and the occasional after image I see if an object is against a white wall makes me think I could have it idk...

It's normal for ppl to experience after image to some degree . But what is not normal when you experiencing it a lot of time

I read that anti depressants can give you mild motion blindness and if you stop taking them that symptom goes away? Have you tried to stop taking them and it went away or is it from the hppd and never went away

Sadly it never went away even after stopping antidepressants

Is it a good idea for me to start taking lexapro if I could possibly have mild hppd? I can’t take the obsession of wondering if I have it anymore... seeing after images when an object is against white wall very briefly, not seeing visual snow outside but I see grainyness in low lighting, eye floaters in the sky but not all the time... someone help

According to what Dr. Abraham said all antidepressants are safe for hppders except nortryptline  . But in my experience mirtazapine (which is tetracyclic antidepressant) triggered my mild motion blindness ?

I am also going to try ECT

I haven’t done ECT because my depression became more manageable (i use antidepressants) if your depression is severe or u r suicidal it will help u but I don’t think it will help visuals . Keep us updated

Inositol worked well for my depression and also has a calming effect. My main advice is to do whatever you can to reduce stress though... If that means locking yourself in a room and watching movies or playing games for the next 3 months.. Do it.. That might mean quitting work or college, but your mental health for the rest of your life is just too important to worry about things that you can rebuild later.

Locking himself will increase depression and anxiety. go and do what before hppd you always do , whatever happens to you ,you will develop coping skills to make your life more easier

  8. @Johan0987 you are doing the right things ,I want to inform u that benzos sometime can  worsen your depression temporarily while tapering and that what happened to me so i thought it's the end and i became really suicidal (I was on depressed state which made my feelings about visual worse) . My depression is very manageable these days but my anxiety is high after waking up and it's slowly getting better during the day .

    Clonidine

This drug is very good for somatic symptoms of anxiety .  I use propranolol 10mg is very good and sometimes it helps me even psychologically

keep going and DON'T GIVE UP
