Guyindubai
So i have gotten effexor prescribed today for my social anixity, anyone got some idea's about this medcine? and does it block dopamine similar to anti psychotics as that a no no for HPPD.. TheGman6072
Try not to mix it with other meds at first so you know exactly what Effexor does by itself. what dose did you get prescribed ? What other meds you on ?
Mr.50's
Don't know how it works that much, just know it's a serotonin and norepinephrine(dopamine) reuptake inhibitor. Lots have said it made their symptoms worse, those who it did work for love it
Guyindubai
Does that mean it increases dopamine and set serotonin? Or does it increase serotonin and block dopamine ?

What other meds you on ? I'm on Klonopin 1.75 mg in the morning and 500 mg Keppra-- evening the Effexor and 0.25 klonopin.. Do you advice me to take the 0.25 Klonpin in the morning instead of taking it with Effexor? And does this work like other SSRIs?
VisualDude
So i have gotten effexor prescribed today for my social anixity, anyone got some idea's about this medcine? and does it block dopamine similar to anti psychotics as that a no no for HPPD.. Its a SNRI (Serotonin–norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) - something that increases concentration of serotonin and norepinephrine. In high doses it increases dopamine a little ... meds usually spill over to have effects on many areas. Wiki can get you the basics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venlafaxine#Mechanism_of_action It is not an anti-psychotic. SNRIs are newer than SRIs so the effects are less known. Actually little is known about many meds since government approval is based on toxicity levels and effectiveness in helping conditions that the manufacture is applying permission to treat. So it comes down to individuals trying a med and seeing if it helps.

Mr.50's
Just try it at a low dose for a day or 2, anything crazy happens and you just stop it
TheGman6072
Don't just stop taking it right away over some side effects. Take it for 2 weeks and if the side effects don't stop after a couple weeks, then stop taking it
ddiddy66
i would say try it for 2 months. If you respond it could replace your klonopin. Most of the horror stories about it are about getting off it.
Guyindubai
Alright thanks for your comments guys, il give it a try and post back in a week or so.
Guyindubai
Is it normal to feel like a zombie and slow the first few days of taking this med?
TheGman6072
I believe every med I have taken made me feel like that except Buspirone
TheGman6072
They would all make me tired but atleast I could think clearly and look directly at objects and focus on them
Mr.50's
Yes that's a very common effect, have your visuals worsened? As long as they haven't significantly worsened I'd continue
Guyindubai
Yes my visuals flared up but not so much that it's annoying it's still acceptable.. So I'm gna keep waiting although I'm feeling really tired and I'm not getting any good sleep..
Mr.50's
There was this study I saw, this man with hppd took some antidepressant and "he noted an increase in lsd like visual disturbances writhing the first few days" and then it said after a few weeks his symptoms disappeared
TheGman6072
Should I ask for this instead of Buspirone ?
Mr.50's
Not everyone knows what fucking Buspirone is stop asking everyone like they fucking know about it like they're a doctor
TheGman6072
Dr.50's, Then why the fuck you always act like you know about it like you're a doctor ?
hppd33
im taking an SNRI it doesnt work for HPPD, period. It works a LITTLE bit on the anxiety, and yes it makes you tired along with other side effects. If you are not so depressed or full of anxiety i would not take it. ddiddy66
I've taken Effexor for ten years and I 100% agree with hppd33
ddiddy66
I will say for me it helped the depression and completely eliminated the anxiety. But did absolutely nothing for my hppd symptoms
Guyindubai
I actually don't fee the side effects as strong as before but it could be me just assuming since it's only the 3rd day. Also I noticed that I am somewhat more social... Dunno if it's possible the drug worked that quickly, could be because I was on an SSRI for 5 years so the medcine was quickly picked up by my brain. I feel less stressed out then I usually do.. A little calmer and happier..Also this medcine is pretty strong.. It's even stronger then Klonpin... I remember when I took the klonopin for the first few days I wasn't a zombie or whatever.. But the Effexor is pretty damn strong.. Let's see how it goes in the long run
hppd33
Be happy your in Dubai, less clouds, less visual snow. I live in a crappy cloudy country. Anyway all the best with the effexor!
