There are people on here who have made their hppd worse, long term, from alcohol.... there are people here who seem fine, there are people here who don't get long term issues, but get terrible anxiety for upto 3-4 days after the night of heavy drinking (I am one!). So the answer is, as always, no one can answer for you!! Isn't hppd fun?

2 large beers reduces your serotonin by 80% the next day, so it has a significant effect on the brain's chemistry.

If you do drink, the very best is to stick to something like gin and orange... Just a small amount, just have enough to get a buzz, then try to stay on water until the buzz needs a bit of a top up. That is the cleanest... If not that, just a few bottled beers, organic if possible. Drink plenty of water and have a banana when you return to help boost your serotonin levels.

The problem with alcohol is once you have had 2-3, you stop caring about the rules and just go wild.

It is the only time I feel like my old personality is back, i can relax, chat and make jokes like I used to. It is not great for hppd sufferers though... I am sure I made my recovery chances worse by drinking alot of problems away in the first 3 years of hppd.

Tramadol made me feel amazing, actual happiness meanwhile codeine didn't, that's because tramadol cause a release in serotonin which all hppders seem to lack. Sadly taking drugs that affect serotonin is NOT a safe thing with hppd. Drinking makes me feel ok if I only have a little, I recently had only 2 bud lights and felt really de personalized and scared

codeine has a very weak effect compared to other opiates and can only help to a certain degree, if you take more it wont affect your opiate receptors anymore. tramadol is a ''synthetic'' opiate and like all of them, it increases well being by releasing gaba and in the case of tramadol just small amounts of serotonin (serotonin alone would make you trip and anxious)...the strange thing is that gaba is helping with anxiety not only hppd...which leads me to the conclusion that whether hppd can not exist without anxiety or is just another kind of anxiety disorder....remembering that a symptom of severe anxiety is hallucination (and dilated pupils).

by the way tramadol (the so called synthetic opiate) has been found in a plant as a natural compound not even long ago....maybe you can grow and extract it

Jay (or anybody else), I was just wondering if you know cases of people who've been "cured" of their HPPD, then drank heavily and had their HPPD symptoms return. I'm never doing hard drugs again, not even weed, but I would like to have some drinks in the future and feel safe. I'm not consuming alcohol until I feel my HPPD is completely gone or at a point where I can't notice it any longer. But after that I would like to continue drinking here and there as long as I'm sure it won't cause my symptoms to return.

Thanks.

Yeah it sounds pretty safe from everything I've read. I'm the same way with anxiety though. I always have gotten really bad hangovers due to anxiety. Before HPPD I'd gotten to the point in my life where I didn't drink that much anyways because I hated the hangovers, but I just want to be sure that if one night I slip up I won't be thrown back into the hell of having to deal with HPPD again. I don't think I'll ever drink that much again, but I do just want to be sure.
